Wendy Bernfeld, former Montrealer and founder/Managing Director of Rights Stuff BV (Amsterdam) www.rights-stuff.com , is a passionate film buff with 25+ years in film/tv/paytv/VOD channel startup, biz dev and content/programming, in North America and EMEA/international.
This included, prior to founding Rights Stuff in ’99, multi-region senior executive roles as C.E.O. Canal+ International, Managing Director Alliance Atlantis and, earlier on, SVP Biz Dev and Acquisitions, Movie Network, after her earlier roots as an entertainment lawyer and Supreme Court Law Clerk.
Since founding Rights Stuff she provides content strategy and pragmatic licensing advice, for both platforms and creators/IP rightsholders – as a digital agent/consultant, not taking their IP. This includes curation, acquisition, distribution and development, so as to help maximise rights, windows, and audiences across an evolving digital landscape. She’s often in stealth mode for platforms prelaunch of services or apps, and/or after launch, assisting as they expand to other regions/genres.
Her key expertise is international pay/SVOD/OTT/ mobile/telecom content licensing, as well as ‘’Originals’’ deals, for traditional , ‘’digital-first’’ , cross platform and VR content . Her focus extends to the alternative buyers and funders, going beyond just the big5 players, to the many regional and genre-specific services who compete and/or complement them.
Wendy is a frequent lecturer and writer on digital media, as well as a strong supporter of the production and festival sectors including roles on various advisory boards, and earlier was named one of 10 ‘Brave Thinkers of Indie Film’’ by Oscar-winning independent producer Ted Hope.
